Diagnostic & Interventional Radiologist (Locum) | New Zealand

Work in New Zealand. Experience the lifestyle. Decide what comes next.

3 to 6 Month Locum Opportunity | “Try New Zealand Before You Move”

About the Role

We are seeking experienced Diagnostic and / or Interventional Radiologists who are interested in working in New Zealand for a 3 to 6 month locum placement to support the delivery of high-quality imaging, reporting, and procedural services across acute, elective, inpatient, and outpatient settings in locations throughout New Zealand.  Such roles will suit a clinician who enjoys working closely with multidisciplinary teams and contributing to timely diagnosis, clinical decision-making, and patient-focused care.

This opportunity is ideal for doctors who are considering a move to New Zealand but would like to experience the healthcare system, lifestyle and work environment before making a longer-term commitment.

We have multiple permanent positions available across New Zealand – based on this we will be able to match your professional work requirements with your personal life requirements to provide you with an improved work-life balance lifestyle.

About the Opportunity

As a locum-tenens Radiologist, you will provide high-quality clinical care within your area of expertise while working alongside New Zealand-based clinical teams.

The 3 to 6 month placement gives you the chance to:

  • Experience working as a doctor in New Zealand.
  • Explore whether New Zealand is the right long-term fit for you and your family.
  • Understand the local healthcare system before committing to a permanent move.
  • Enjoy New Zealand’s lifestyle, scenery, culture and communities.
  • Build relationships with New Zealand healthcare providers.
  • Consider future locum, fixed-term or permanent opportunities.

For some doctors, this is a one-off overseas working experience.  For others, it becomes the first step toward a longer-term move to New Zealand.

For US-trained doctors, the relevant Medical Council of New Zealand pathway may include Special Purpose Locum Tenens registration, a comparable health system pathway, or another appropriate registration pathway depending on your qualifications, experience, specialty and the specific role.

Triple0 Medical will talk you through the likely registration pathway and next steps.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert interpretation and reporting of diagnostic imaging, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and plain film radiography.
  • Perform and report on interventional radiology procedures, depending on subspecialty interest, experience, and service needs.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and support clinical decision-making.
  • Support acute and elective imaging services across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Participate in on-call or after-hours reporting rosters as required by the service.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and clinically relevant reporting in line with accepted standards, protocols, and patient safety expectations.
  • Engage in quality assurance, audit, clinical governance, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Work collaboratively with radiology colleagues, referrers, clinical teams, and support staff to deliver efficient and high-quality imaging services.

Requirements

  • Eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • Fellowship or equivalent specialist qualification in Radiology, such as FRANZCR or an internationally recognised equivalent.
  • Experience in diagnostic radiology and / or interventional radiology, depending on the scope of the role.
  • Strong communication, clinical judgement, and collaboration skills.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-focused care.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
  • A focus on clinical accuracy, timely reporting, and continuous service improvement.
