Position Overview
The Trauma Surgery team provides comprehensive clinical care to patients requiring trauma, surgical critical care, and acute care general surgery at our state recognized Level 1 trauma center in West Reading. Physicians evaluate and manage trauma and acute general surgery patients in the emergency department, cover the surgical intensive care unit, and have the opportunity to participate in a small elective surgical practice. The trauma surgeons are supported by a team of experienced advanced practice providers who work closely with the physicians in all aspects of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care. General Surgery Residents support the team in all aspects of care on the service.
The Trauma Research Director will lead the Division of Trauma and Surgical Critical Care in research efforts. They will have time allotted to performing this important aspect of our Level 1 trauma center, guided by standards of the PTSF. The Research Director will work closely with our dedicated Research Coordinator as well as residents from our General Surgery residency and students primarily from Drexel University School of Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive care for trauma, critical care, and acute care surgery patients.
- Participate in 24/7 trauma and acute care surgery coverage.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to provide evidence-based care consistent with Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation standards.
- Participate in trauma performance improvement and quality initiatives.
- Educate and train General Surgery residents and medical students.
- Maintain a small elective surgical practice.

Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited General Surgery residency
- Fellowship training in Surgical Critical Care
- Unrestricted Pennsylvania medical license
- Current ATLS certification required (Instructor preferred)
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
