MUSC Health Florence Pulmonary Critical Care is seeking a dedicated Nocturnal Advanced Practice Provider to join our growing team and provide high-quality, patient-centered care within the inpatient critical care setting. This role works collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to assess, diagnose, and manage complex patients overnight. The ideal candidate will perform comprehensive evaluations, develop and implement patient care plans, interpret diagnostic results, participate in patient rounds, provide education to patients and families, manage clinical documentation, and support safe transitions of care. Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program with current licensure or eligibility for licensure in South Carolina.
  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner candidates must be licensed or eligible, with prior hospital medicine and/or ICU experience preferred.
  • Must have a least 6 months of Hospitalist Medicine Experience 
  • Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with the SC Board of Nursing.
  • Requires certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). If ACLS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date.
  • APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law.
  • DHEC and DEA license 

Position Highlights:

  • 7 on 7 off schedule (7PM-7AM)
  • Inpatient (18 years – death)
  • $5,000 sign on bonus 
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Initiates referrals to other health care provides, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members

Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:

  • Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
  • Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiology, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
  • Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief
  • Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges, skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief. The Nurse Practitioner will assist/perform the following, but NOT limited to:
  • Lumbar Puncture
  • Central Venous line placement
  • Pulmonary Artery Catheterization
  • Arterial line placement
  • Endotracheal Intubation
  • Chest Tube placement
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Thoracentesis
  • Paracentesis
  • Perform suturing/stapling, and removal of catheters/tubes/drains as needed.
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
  • Potential to first assist in the operating room
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
  • Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
  • Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
  • Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
  • APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
  • Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
  • Documents and bills for direct care provided
  • Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice

  • Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization
